Natural hair color has a multitude of tones and colors. The colors can span as much as five levels from the lightest to the darkest.

When hair color is used to create natural, subtle, or realistic effects it is kept within this range. The use of the two colors levels darker than the natural color is typically thought of as low lighting. The use of the three color levels lighter is considered highlighting when blended with the natural color.
Working within these five color levels is referred to as working in the family of color. When we use both a darker level and a lighter level, we refer to this as bracketing. Within each color level, tonal values range from cool to warm.

There are times after a thorough consultation that the client we will decide to disregard the approaches discussed above. We will purposely take the hair beyond its natural limits. In doing so we create a more dramatic effect.

As you can see, the possibilities are endless. However to be successful all color processes should be approached with purpose and intent. We feel it is important for our clients to have a basic understanding of these principals as well as others when considering color. Knowledge and communication are the keys to success.
